Marleen holds a M.Ed. in Counseling and Development - Marriage, Couple, and Family. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor-Associate in Texas, a Board Certified Coach, a Certified Psychosynthesis Life Coach, and a Certified Grief Recovery Method Specialist with advanced training. Additionally, she is a Holistic Practitioner of Energy Health Modalities/Cognitive Somatic Energy Practices and certified in Thought Field Therapy - Algorithm (TFT-Algo) the original "Tapping" from which Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) was later developed; The Emotion Code & The Body Code, a form of alternative energy-healing which is also based on the model of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) meridians systems/non-Western techniques.
Prior to attending college, early during her career as a massage therapist and licensed aesthetician she was introduced to the concept of “East meets West.” Immediately intrigued by the various holistic therapies, she learned a few techniques in order to integrate into her scope of practice at the time. It is from there, where she began her twenty years long quest for knowledge of Eastern contemplative wisdoms, the perennial philosophies, Mind + Body + Spirit wellness, Complimentary Alternative Medicines (CAM), studies in the model of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), consciousness studies, guided imagery meditation, hypnotherapy, and related techniques.
Over twenty years ago and from a great love of learning and discovery, Marleen dedicated herself to pursue higher learning. Marleen obtained her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from The University of Texas at San Antonio where she minored in Spanish and graduated in her 2011 class with honors. Her academic learning and discovery journey includes many graduate level hours in diverse areas such as Education, Adult Learning & Teaching, as well as studies in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Acupuncture & Herbs and related holistic techniques.
She obtained her Master's degree in Counseling at Lamar University where she graduated with honors in 2022. Marleen is a life-long learner who is passionate about continuing education and training that can add to her skills as a helping professional. She has always known that she was meant to be a healer, helper, and counselor. Her mission in life is to contribute to the clarity that leads to improved self-understanding and wellbeing. She is committed to collaborating with her clients as a guide, helping them tap into their greater potential for wellness.
*Energy Health Modalities potentially harmonize the energy fields in and around the body to promote health and well-being. They may also help encourage positive thoughts and emotions. A trained practitioner or healthcare professional performs energy therapy treatments using various noninvasive techniques. Many schools of energy healing exist using many names: for example, biofield energy healing, spiritual healing, contact healing, distant healing, therapeutic touch, Reiki or Qigong.
I am a proud pet parent, specifically a dog mom. When I'm not working I enjoy reading, art, music, and, it seems I'm never quite able to quench my thirst for learning and discovery! I'm a bit of a coffee enthusiast, I love to try different kinds of coffees using different styles of coffee makers, including my recent Turkish coffee pot. I also collect games and puzzles crafted from wood. I enjoy strumming my guitars and learning Spanish classical guitar. Recently I have made the commitment to learn to read sheet music, it's a life long goal I had shelved (and was intimidated by) for too long. This journey, while slow, is bringing me great joy and satisfaction! I believe it's never too late to hear and answer the call of Self!
Hi my name is Marleen and I help people cope with grief. When I was four my beautiful mother died suddenly from an aneurysm. Although I was very young, I can recall the changes in my family environment. Everyone around me was broken-hearted. I witnessed for the first time the deepest sort of sadness, especially by my father who lost the mother of his three small children. It was the beginning of decades of heavy and silent sadness due to unresolved grief.
The years went on. But, on Thanksgiving morning 2012 began a series of losses that led me to the Grief Recovery Method (GRM) program. The first was a massive, 144 car pile up (Texas Thanksgiving Day pile-up) that left me with permanent chronic pain from serious spinal injuries, PTSD, loss of my healthy-self, loss of the more active life I’d known before, and the end of a long relationship. The health obstacles hampered my journey to completing a master's degree that I was pursuing at the time.
Shortly after that, I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer which spread to my lymph nodes. After surgery, I continued to deal with the effects of my new normal including a weakened immune system and chronic hypocalcemia.
I was grieving.
Then, I discovered the Grief Recovery Method. I just knew I could not delay learning more! Truly, the action-based GRM program taught me exactly how to take the steps needed to move beyond the emotional pain from the snowballing grief. It provided me with more than grief support, but rather grief recovery. I am here for you. And, I am happy to talk with you, please, don’t hesitate to reach out for help. You don’t have to grieve alone!
