Energy Health Modalities also known as Energy Healing Practices (EHP) are usually offered outside of a conventional, Western therapy setting, but can be incorporated with established and researched Western treatment approaches like Exposure Therapy as complimenting to treatment. EHP are holistic, non-Western techniques that are based on 4,500 year old methods for healing and spiritual development (GoodTherapy.org).
There are several variations of Energy Healing Practices (EHP) with most involving the electromagnetic and subtle energies of the body such as the Chakra systems in Ayurveda, or as described in the medical model of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) known as acupuncture meridians.
Often referred to as needle-free acupuncture (David Feinstein, Ph.D.) EHP techniques like Thought Field Therapy (TFT) and the newer, Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) or simply "Tapping," are believed to help remove energy blockages and potentially improve a person's sense of balance and wellbeing.
One appeal of Tapping also known as Meridian Tapping, is that the Tapping sequences are user-friendly to learn, apply, and practice. Increasingly, more and more professionals are incorporating EHP techniques (TFT/EFT/Tapping and similar methodologies) to their services as complimentary to traditional talk therapy. This is done because the professionals are able to integrate mindfulness, exposure therapy, cognitive reframing, and other methods as they treat clients for specific needs.
While EHP are considered relatively new, and still being researched, there are increasing numbers of studies that appear to support its use as promising to potentially benefit individuals as a cognitive somatic intervention. Because of this, it is currently regarded as complimentary to traditional treatment.
Among practitioners of EHP are licensed professionals like psychologists, counselors, medical doctors, and holistic healers just to list a few of the various types of professionals.
